For the Stuffed Peppers
- 6–8 Hungarian wax or sweet peppers
- 1 lb (450 g) ground pork or a mixture of pork and beef
- ½ cup uncooked white rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Tomato Sauce
- 28 oz (800 g) tomato passata or crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups water or broth
- 1 tablespoon sugar, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
