Hungarian Meatballs in Paprika Sauce

Instructions

  1. Make the meatballs: Combine ground meat, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into small meatballs.
  2. Brown the meatballs: Heat a little oil in a large skillet or pot. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then transfer them to a plate.
  3. Prepare the sauce: In the same pan, sauté the chopped onion until soft. Remove from heat and stir in the paprika and flour.
  4. Add the tomato and bell pepper, then gradually pour in the broth while stirring.
  5. Return the meatballs to the sauce. Cover and simmer gently for 25–30 minutes, until cooked through.
  6. Make it creamy: Mix the sour cream with a few spoonfuls of hot sauce. Stir it back into the pan and simmer gently for 3–5 minutes.
  7. Taste and adjust the salt and pepper.
  8. Serve: Spoon the meatballs and creamy paprika sauce over nokedli, egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice.
